Social Nostalgy

I just deactivated my facebook account. I didnt feel a big loss about it, since I still have all my friends for real even if I wouldnt be on that social network 24/7. I still have all my pictures on my hard drive and sometimes it is even much more fun to tortoure friends with a realtime slideshow and watch them doze off after the first 4 photos...

But... to be honest, I didnt realise the full impact of it. My mother long ago had a facebook account as it was a great way into spying on me and her grandchildren. After her death, it felt comforting to see her in my social network family every day. I could even write a private message to her - although I would never receive an answer back (which also saved me from her telling me off about silly things too). Anyway, still being a silly social network thing, it was truely comforting and even it is only a few hours that I deactivated, I already miss the connection that I had to her through something inhumane as facebook...
