20 years ago at some time in the middle of the night from the turn of April to May it started to rain over the city of
Munich. I do remember this night quite well, because we were out with some friends to screw around. Armed with toothpaste, toilet-paper and other pretty pointless stuff in order to keep up the tradition of playing tricks to others during
Walpurgis night.
We were quite annoyed by the sudden rain. But we dislocated loose property, filled mailboxes with water balloons and wrote all kinds of filthy things on windows and windscreens until we were really soaking wet.
The next day in school, we weren't allowed to go outside during our breaks. Because it was raining very lightly. Radioactive fallout had merged west from
Chernobyl and had hit
Bavaria the night before. People started to buy powdered milk and from 20 exchange students to
Finland (which was said to be affected on a higher degree) only me and some other guy were still on the plane one month later.
Since I just read where
Helga was at that night. Where were you?
